Dr. Ulrike Schmieder is senior researcher and lecturer at the Centre for Atlantic and Global Studies and the Department of History, Leibniz University Hanover. She taught Iberian, West European, Latin American and Caribbean history at the Universities of Leipzig, Cologne, Zacatecas, Hanover, Heidelberg and Bremen with a special focus on gender and (post)slavery history looking at comparisons and entanglements in the Atlantic space. Her research and publication interest include Spanish history during the Liberal Triennium (1820-1823) and its entanglements with German, European and Spanish American history, the image of Latin America in German journals of the 18th and 19th century, Mexico, Brazil and Cuba with respect to gender history (1780-1880) and Martinique and Cuba after emancipation.
